Is Water Essential for the Body?

If I was asked this question from the time I was a kid into my late 20’s and early 30’s, I would have emphatically said, ” No way!” I hated the taste of water and drank mostly diet soda. Then I began to learn just how bad diet soda is for the body and how essential water is to the body.

I slowly started to transition from diet soda to water. However, it took me a year to do this! So, is it possible to make this change? Yes, absolutely! Are you determined enough to do it? That’s the question you need to answer for yourself.

Water is essential to the body: it helps the muscles and brain function properly. Additionally, it also helps the digestive tract to move the way it supposed to.

As a health coach, I talk with clients about the importance of cleansing the body and for good reason. Cleansing helps to eliminate toxins and waste; which is crucial. One of the best ways to help this cleansing process is to drink plenty of water.

How much water is enough?

Our brains and muscles are about 70 to 75 percent water. Now that’s a lot of water! Are you drinking enough water to give the support the body needs to function properly? A good indication for the amount of water adults require to drink is about half their body weight in ounces. For kids the amount of water is equal to what they weigh pound to ounces.

Another good indication for drinking enough water is having mostly clear to clear urine.  Our digestive system relies heavily upon having enough water to remove waste daily. If we don’t drink enough water and become dehydrated, we won’t eliminate waste like we are supposed to.

Try adding a glass of water daily

As a bodywork practitioner, fascia and muscle function are my focus. I make sure to ask my clients what their water intake looks like on a daily basis. If it’s not where it should be, I do suggest adding a glass of water daily for a week to start. I also make sure they have water to drink on their way out following the session since the body has begun to release toxins.  When we drink enough water, it allows the fascia of the body to move more freely and give our joints the fluid they need to function better too.

We can all improve our health and wellness with simple solutions. Why not start with water?

That’s where I started. It’s one of the easiest places to begin since you can use a variety of ways to make water taste better. If you really dislike the taste of it, you can add slices of orange, lemon, lime, and berries to your water container to flavor it naturally; helping to make the transition easier for you.

So, if you are drinking the amount of water that’s right for your body, terrific! Keep up the good work! If you are not, make this one simple change of increasing your water consumption to improve your health. You can do it!
